22 Weeks!!

At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. Her lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and she's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath her gums. Her eyes have formed, but her irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers her body and the deep wrinkles on her skin, which she'll sport until she adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside her belly, her pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.

Wow. This journey is really moving so quickly. I was thinking about it this morning and I only have 18 weeks left. 18 weeks really doesn't seem like all that long when you really think about it. I think I'm finally starting to get to the point of being nervous. I am excited and ready, but it's definitely going to be a huge change in our lives and I think until she's actually here and we're able to hold her, I'll probably continue to be nervous. I'm sure that comes with the territory.

Last time I mentioned that we finally went and registered at Babies'R'Us once we knew for certain that Nugget was a girl. Well we also went this past weekend and registered at Target as well. Seeing all the adorable clothes and cute little toys, just makes me even more ready for Nugget's arrival! I also went out and bought my own first outfit for her. I actually bought two outfits for her. It's hard to stop at just two because the clothes are so ridiculously cute, but I am trying to hold out since most of the clothes out right now are for warm weather and by the time Nugget arrives it will be getting cooler out. So I'm trying to avoid even looking at the clothes!!

Joe and I also finally got started (slowly) on the nursery this weekend. The room that is going to be Nugget's room was Joe's "UGA" room and so we're having to take down all the pictures and we're going to have to repaint. The room had a bed in there as well and we got that out of there this weekend and we put our crib together and now it's up and ready to be dressed up for Nugget's arrival! I feel like putting the crib together and getting it all set up is just even more of a realization that this IS really happening! I can't wait to get the bedding in and pick out the paint colors and get this room really started!

We go back in about 2 and a half weeks for our next ultrasound and I can't wait!!! :)

21 Weeks!!

Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you're having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well.

I can't believe that I'm already at 21 weeks. It seems like this pregnancy is going by SO quickly but yet at the same time September seems so far away. I know that it will probably end up passing in the blink of an eye! I can't wait for her to get here so we can hold her and begin getting to know her!

Since we have determined that Nugget is most definitely a "she", Joe, my mom and I went and registered at Babies'R'Us on Sunday. Wow that was an experience! There was just so much stuff there - so many things I'd honestly never thought of before. It was such a blessing to have my mom there to help us register because she was able to tell us things to register for that I really wouldn't have given a second glance at! Actually starting to pick things out for Nugget really made it even more real! It made it so that I could really start imagining having her in our lives and living with her day to day! I can't wait!

After we registered we went and picked out the crib for Nugget's nursery. It took a lot of consideration and some serious discussion but I am honestly thrilled with the crib that we picked out! I can't wait to get it set up in the nursery! Here is a link to the crib we picked out: http://www.babysdream.com/Products/LegendaryFlat/. I couldn't get it to copy the picture for me to post in the blog, but this will let you see it. I can't wait!!

Now we just need to get the bedding in and I can match it with some paint swatches and we can get going! This is going to be one of the most fun parts of this pregnancy and I can't wait to get started!!!

It REALLY is a Girl!

We went back to the doctor today for our fourth ultrasound. This time was specifically to determine the gender of Nugget. I have been on pins and needles just eagerly waiting to find out. The last time the tech told us that she was 80% certain Nugget was a girl. Today when we got into the room she immediately told me not to remind her of what she told us last time, because she wanted to see if it was the same this time. She moved the sensor around for a few minutes and then said, well I hope I told you it was a girl last time. I said you did! So then we got down to business and she started showing us all different little things we could see of Nugget.

Here is a full shot of Nugget. She was kind of curled up and so it was hard to get a good full shot of her and so this shot (to me anyways) is kind of confusing. About all I can make out for sure is the head and then her little fist right near her head. The rest of it, I'm not sure is an arm or a leg or what! :)

Next, we got to see an up close and personal shot of her foot! The tech measured and her foot is 1.3 inches long right now. How tiny!!! Joe says she's going to be an excellent soccer player. Then again, he also said she's going to be a pharmacist... so apparently she's going to be a lot of things! :)

Finally, we got another shot of her face looking towards us. I personally think she already looks just like me, but Joe really disagrees. What does he know anyways! ;)

The tech this time was unable to get a good shot of her heart and so because of that I get to go back again in another 4 weeks for another ultrasound! Hooray! I have really been so incredibly blessed to have had this many ultrasounds without there being something wrong with Nugget. We go back June 11th and this will be my 5th ultrasound. The tech was also able to tell us that Nugget is currently weighing in at a hefty 13 oz. which is the 50th percentile. So she's perfectly average. I'm totally and completely happy with that! :)

As for my check-up with the doctor, everything went swimmingly. I have gained 2 pound since my last visit, so only 5 pounds overall which I am absolutely thrilled with! The doctor said I was right on track and he was thrilled with my progress. My blood pressure was 126/80 and the doctor said that was fine because I'm usually on the high side of normal, but he was still going to keep an eye on it. We also got to listen to the heartbeat again and it's just so awesome and amazing to hear that heart beating so fast and strong. Nugget is doing so great in there!

I am still feeling great and can't find one thing to complain about pregnancy so far. I've been sleeping better once I got a good pillow to sleep with and the tiredness is almost completely gone. I just wish I wasn't wearing a path to the bathroom so much! :) Oh well, I know that'll just get worse as time goes on, so I'm just getting used to it now!

So overall things are just going so wonderfully and I am ecstatic that we finally know for sure that Nugget is really a Nuggette. :) We are going to go on Sunday to start registering for things and I can't wait!!! Thanks again for all of your prayers and support, we are so excited to share this journey with y'all!!

Finally starting to show!

Twenty weeks along and finally starting to show! The only time in my life where I'll be thrilled to not have a flat stomach! :)

20 Weeks! The halfway mark!!!

Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)

He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

WOW! 20 weeks. When I first found out I was pregnant I never thought the halfway mark would come so fast! I have really enjoyed getting to see how Nugget is growing when I get these updates each week from Babycenter.com and it's just amazing to me how fast it's moving.

We go this Friday at 1 to get our 20 week ultrasound and they should more than likely be able to determine the gender for certain at this visit. I've had a number of people tell me that you should drink some caffeine before you go in because it makes the baby a bit more hyper and so the baby ends up moving around a lot more when you have the ultrasound done, so I'm going to try that and hopefully Nugget will cooperate this time and show us for certain! :) I can NOT wait to find out for sure so that we can focus on names and finally get started on the nursery. I'm itching to get in there and get decorating!!!

19 Weeks!

Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.

Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

Oh yay! Nugget is growing some hair! How exciting! I love reading how much Nugget is growing from week to week. 8 1/2 ounces - that's over half a pound! It's amazing to think that when this whole process is over, Nugget will (hopefully) be about 6-7 pounds or so. He/she has so much more growing to do before it's all said and done. It's also exciting to know that Nugget may be able to hear us talking - we've been talking to him/her all along, but it's good to know that he/she can actually probably hear us now!

I can't even begin to describe how excited I am and what a joyous process this entire pregnancy has been so far. If I had to describe the worst part it has been some minor sleepless nights, but in the grand scheme of things, that's nothing compared to what I know some women go through. I'm finally starting to show and that just means to me that Nugget is, in fact, growing like he/she should. We're down to ten days until our next ultrasound and more than likely confirmation of Nugget's gender. I can't wait to find out so that we can get to planning the nursery and even buying some stuff for Nugget!

Time to Check In!

Ok, I'm totally stealing this off of a friend's blog, but I love it and thought it would be a good update and a reminder for me as I get further along of how I felt at this point!

How far along: 18 weeks and 6 days.

Symptoms: Exhaustion, which is almost completely gone. But now I'm starting to get round ligament pain and it sure isn't my friend.

Total Weight Gain: 3 pounds as of my last doctor's visit. Let's hope it doesn't go up too much next Friday! :)

Maternity Clothes:
Still not in maternity clothes at all yet. Wearing my normal clothes and some of them are still loose on me although I know it won't be that way for too much longer!

Stretch Marks: I haven't noticed any yet! Again, let's hope it stays that way!

Sleep: I've been tossing and turning a lot lately and struggling to get comfortable, but I've just found my new best friend - a body pillow! I slept with it for the first time last night and it was awesome! So hopefully sleep will be returning to me post haste!

Best Moment This Week: Starting to feel Nugget moving. They're just flutters, but it's awesome nonetheless!!

Movement: See above. I've felt it a couple of times over the weekend and then once today.

Food Cravings: No real cravings of any sort. I'll crave something just once and then it'll be gone. The oddest one so far was deviled eggs. But I had some and the craving went away! So I'd say that's no different than a normal craving.

Belly Button: Still in.

What I miss: Honestly? Nothing. This is the greatest thing that's ever happened to me and the only things I'm not getting to have are caffeine and alcohol and I'm not missing either one a bit!

What I am looking forward to: I have exactly 11 days until I go back for my next ultrasound and we're supposed to be able to confirm the gender and so I can't wait for that and then to begin registering and decorating the nursery!

Milestones: I don't know that I've really had any "milestones" per se other than making it to my 2nd trimester and now feeling Nugget moving.

How is Daddy?: He couldn't be more excited. I loved getting to see him interact with a friend's child this weekend and I just saw the joy in his face. I know he can't wait for Nugget to get here and I know that he will be the best dad any child could ever ask for!

How are the Grandparents?: They are all just thrilled, but I think my mom especially as this is her first! My mom has already been helping me pick stuff out and helping me plan the nursery.
